Perhaps the chieftain chose to bring a paddle on purpose, to teach the foolish youngling a very humiliating lesson in front of the whole tribe?

My first draft of this picture did have Blaze holding the spear in a more effective stance, but he insisted on having this thrusting pose instead. X3
