I used ImageMagick to compose the frames into an animation, and Acorn to generate the respective masks and whatnot for each frame. The background is a seriously reduced crop of a sky photograph taken by me.

I'd LOVE to make this my avatar, but for the 50k limitation on avatars. :( This file is 117k. Still trying to refine it and optimize it and whatnot, but efforts thusfar are not proving fruitful.

Somewhat inspired by what  likeshine and  spunky did to animate their own avatars.
