A custom character by Dizzy by Design. This is a basic wooden model of a Telepresence Puppet. A Telepresence Puppet is a construct used by an operator to perform actions from a remote location, typically hazardous work or to skip the need to personally travel to a work location. The designs are usually modular, with the torso containing a mana battery and the necessary spellwork for the construct to operate and be controlled. The torso can be opened to service or replace these components. The limbs and head can be easily replaced. The head is typically the second most complex part of the Puppet, after the torso. On most models, it contains the sensory apparatus (beyond touch, which is typically supplied by the torso and extend through any connected pieces) for the Puppet. The Puppets can come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, materials, and configurations.
The Puppets are usually operated by a control device worn or carried by an operator. It does take some time for an operator to become familiar with the operation of the Puppet. The main skill required is to be able to control the Puppet without making corresponding movements of one's own body. For example, if a Puppet is to pick up a box, the operator's body should not need to lean over, reach out and grab the box; only the puppet should need be be moving. Learning this independent movement is key to making effective use of the Puppet. A user can be linked to as many puppets as the user can hold or wear control devices. However, effective use of the Puppets is limited by how the user can divide his attention, and separate the various streams of sensory inputs and motor commands. It is difficult even for experienced users to perform all but the simplest tasks with their own body and the puppet simultaneously.
Some models of Puppets come with more advanced magic "programming" where they can take simple actions based upon the user's mental commands, which also requires a more advanced control device. Something in the nature of "help me lift this", where the Puppet's spellwork would interpret the user's visualization of the task and translate the mental image into a series of motions, coordinated with the user's motions.
