…Medieval Times…
The outdoors was always brisk this time of year, and the market would always be having its annual hustle and bustle of winter wear. Not that that was anything that he needed to bother himself with.
He was a crocodile, and a mercenary, known for a habit of tickling his bounties on occasion should they strike his fancy. His tunic was partially covered by a hefty chest plate, which was complemented by its fur lining, the arm and leg gauntlets he was also wearing, the winter cape he already prepared, and the large sword he wore on his hip. His name was Trando, and right now, he was done with another successful bounty.
The area he was in was a king-ruled city that stretched several hundred feet and was secured with massive stone walls surrounding the city. The outside was home to a large forest area that stretched for miles, and despite the outdoor brisk, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. The croc took a look at his currency pouch, and tossed it a few times, getting an earful of the new coins he earned from his bounty.

“Heheheheheh…” the croc chuckled in his deep voice, satisfied over another job well done. He looked out past the marketplace and took a deep breath. This was the only time he had during his jobs that he had any free time, so he might as well take the time to enjoy himself before he went on his next job, and right now, the thing he really wanted was a drink.
…
It was a decent looking tavern, set up a little ways away from the town square. The outside suggested it was two stories tall, had its first floor made with stone bricks, and its second floor and roof made of a strong looking wood. Aside from his favorite kinks, nothing passed the time better than a cold pint. He reached onto his belt and took his coin pouch again.
“Let’s see now…” he started, opening the pouch.
Inside, there was a hefty pile of silver, ready to be spent, and every beverage worth glugging around here was worth two pieces.
“I’d say about…five rounds ought-to-be good for…”
*KLAAAAAAAASH*
Out of nowhere, someone flew through one of the first story windows and landed flat on his face right in the open dirt road.
“What in the…?”
*SMAAAAAAAASH*
Before the croc could finish, another one was flung through another window. Confused, Trando walked away from the door and looked at the first mammal who was flung from a window. He was a canine of sorts, no older than his early twenties.
“What did this to ye, lad?” he asked him.
*POOOOOOOOOOOOOW*
Then, out the door, came a third and final mammal, this one looking a little younger than the other two. The croc stood up in confusion but felt a tug at his leg. He looked down, and saw that the canine was still conscious, and pointing to the now ruined door.
“Angel…Eyes…” he managed to utter, before finally passing out.
“Angel Eyes?” Trando repeated.
The inside of the building, which should have been filled with the sounds of people laughing and chattering amongst themselves, was now completely silent, aside from the sound of someone dusting her hands clean.
*Clap*
*Clap*

Trando stepped inside the bar, and immediately took notice of the woman in the middle of the room.
“Angel Eyes…” he realized.
There was no way it couldn’t be who the canine was speaking of; not with the way those eyes of hers shined like stars from the heavens above. Their shade was a blue so deep; it almost looked purple if you looked into them long enough. She was a feline, some sort of orange-gold furred feline, with spots all over her body, and a mane as white as snow; some of it was trying to cover her eye. Her outfit was especially interesting. Compared to the easier slip-on clothing that everyone else wore, her garments not only looked like they took the time to fasten but also looked very well crafted. Her pants were black and were secured thanks to the brown leather belt she wore. She wore laced boots that reached all the way up to her knees and were made reinforced by materials he hadn't even seen before. Then there was the upper clothing; the inner layer was a shade of bright green, while her outer tunic, made out of leather, looked like it was meant for high speeds. Whoever this ‘Angel Eyes’ was, she was definitely a foreigner to this land.
“Does anybody else wanna try somethin’ on me?” She asked in a strange accent. Her question was met with silence.
“That’s what Ah thought.”
Trando narrowed his eyes as the feline turned to the bartender.
“And who the fuck told you to stop pourin’ that drink?!”
The bartender snapped back to attention and went back to mixing several ingredients until preparing a hefty looking pint. As he did this, the feline took a seat, the other patrons remaining silent. The bartender finished, and then immediately served the finished beverage to the woman, and in less than five seconds, the whole thing was finished.
“Another.” She commanded.
The bartender did as she said while Trando approached the woman from behind. He had crossed paths with people like this before. They were usually all the same; preying on innocents because they could fight while they couldn't, and taking advantage of those that could not stand up themselves so they could always get what they wanted. It was disgusting; and one of the only things that the croc was willing to put a stop to for free.
Not that he didn’t take the money if he was offered it.
“Ye seem to have quite the temper on ye there, lass.” He said, taking a seat next to her.
She just finished her second drink. “Believe me, it’s well justified.” She answered.
The croc looked to the bartender and waved him away. He did so as fast as he could.
“Ah wasn’t done drinkin’.” The feline said.
“Ye are now.” The croc answered.
The feline took a deep breath and stood up from her stool. Trando looked at her as he did the same, inspiring the other patrons to quickly rush out of the tavern.
“Look, pal, I’m havin’ a really bad time right now.” She started. “I came to this place about a week ago, and I just learned that I'm over 1000 years from the future, and since then I have had to deal with a lot of bullshit from a lot of people.
She put her glass down and got in Trando’s face.
“And I can tell from that look on your face that you have some sort of need to be the big fuckin’ hero, but let me make it very clear; I am NOT someone you want to be screwing around with. So get OUT of my FACE.”
In all honesty, Trando was lost when the feline spoke about being from the future. Her clothing suggested that she might be telling the truth, but then again, she could just as easily be crazy. One thing was for sure, this woman was dangerous, and she was too angry to listen to reason, which meant that he’d probably have to kill her.
“Look, Angel Eyes. I can tell that you have a couple of issues when it comes to people tellin’ you what to do, but I’m pretty sure ye killed at least one of those people you threw through the door, so how’s about you come with me, before I’m forced to use stronger measures to make ye behave?”
When the croc said ‘stronger measures’, he placed his clawed hand on his hip and touched the hilt of his sword. The feline noticed this but didn’t seem scared or even a little bit nervous at the sight of the weapon. Instead, she pinched the bridge of her nose and put her paw on her hip.
“Ok…fine.” She said. “You really wanna get me goin’? We’ll get goin’. But you’re gonna find yourself regrettin’ that choice.”
The croc chuckled in amusement. “Why’s that? Because ye come from the future?”
The cheetah gave him her first smile. “No. Because of this.”
*SHING*
Out of nowhere, the feline pulled out a sleek shiny dao sword and pointed its tip at the croc’s chest. Trando’s smile faded immediately, and he drew his bastard sword.
*SHING*
With their blades now drawn, the croc and the feline stood foot to foot, blade to blade, and face to face. Their eyes were locked with each other in that single moment, waiting for someone to make the first move.
*Snort*
Taking initiative, Trando spat on the floor, and then swung his sword over his head as hard as he could, intent on striking at Angel Eyes so hard, she’d hit the ground.
*SPAHANG*
With alarming speed, she positioned herself in a stance that allowed her to block the swing and stop him cold. Never had Trando encountered anyone the feline’s size that could possess such strength.
“My turn.”
Then, in one swift movement, the feline slid herself on the table, spun herself so she was back on her feet, jumped into the air, and then…
*POW*
…delivered a sweep-kick that sent the croc flying.
…
Just like that, the croc bandit, or whoever the hell he was, was flying out of the bar, and back into town. Angel Eyes jumped down and quickly picked up someone's unfinished drink. She downed it as quick as she could, threw it aside, and sped out the door.
"Another lousy fuckin' day." She said to herself.
...
*CRASH*
The sound of wood shattering was the first thing he heard when he finally landed; then the sounds of screaming followed suit. Trando shook his head to relieve himself of the stars that were flying above him, and his vision quickly returned to normal, allowing him to see the feline standing several yards in front of him.
“Heh…” the croc chuckled.
Angel Eyes’ attack was sent directly into his chest plate, and despite the power, his armor was top of the line and held strong against his adversary. He rose to his feet, ignoring the sting in his chest, and tightened his grip on his sword.
“We got ourselves a fight then…” he said.
Trando had been fighting people like this for a long time. Maybe they had a couple of surprises up their sleeves from time to time, but they always fell the same. She may have been angry, but that seemed to be all she had right now, and her lack of armor would make it much easier to take her out once she was disarmed.
With all this in mind, he readied himself as the feline began to walk towards him, and then her walk turned to a jog, and her jog into a sprint as she charged towards him with all the speed she could carry.
*CLANG*
Their blades immediately locked when they closed their distance, and with that, they started their fight right in the heart of the market square.
*SHIEEEE*
*PING*
They slid their blades out of the lock and began slashing at each other, their blades blocking their attacks every time. Using his size to his advantage, Trando began to advance on Angel Eyes, swinging his bastard sword over his head every time to try and push the feline to her knees. She began to back away from him as he started taking larger steps, but her knee refused to bend.
“How long…?”
*PANG*
“Do ye think…”
*PAAAY*
“…Ye can keep this up?!”
*POW*
He struck at her so hard, the impact of his blow literally made her slide towards one of the many fruits stands around the market. Her back hit the front crate of the stand, and she turned around to inspect the contents; fruit so dry, they were hard as rocks.
“Long enough for me to do THIS!!”
*PLUNK*
With a powerful kick from her leg, the crate was shattered, and its contents were shot into the air above them. Then the angel eyed warrior delivered several more kicks in several spinning motions, sending the dried fruit towards the croc at top speed.
“Oh please.” He said, raising his sword to cut the projectiles.
*SHINK*
*POW*
*PUSH*
*PUW*
*PING*
*PANG*
*POW*
“Eh…?”
Then he noticed that in his rush to cut the fruit, Angel Eyes had suddenly vanished. And then…
*Zip*
The croc’s eyes lit up wide, and he raised his sword to defend his back.
*PANG*
Perfect timing; her dao blade made direct contact in less than a second, making the croc lose his footing for a moment. The weight of her attack forced him to slide across the hot gravel several feet away. The croc turned around and looked at his assailant with an impressed look.
“Yer stronger than ye look, lass.” He said.
“You lasted longer than I thought you would.” She said back. “Almost sad ah gotta kill ya.”
The croc smiled and charged her. With an irate expression, she charged as well, and in no time, they locked blades again.
*CLAM*
They held their blades in one hand each as they locked eyes in that single moment. Trando had a good time fighting this stranger, but now it was time to finish this, which meant it was time to make the odds a little less fair.
“Be seeing ye, lass.” He said.
*Shink*
He pulled out his trusty sai and prepared to strike, when she raised her left paw, and held it in the air.
“Shame it had to end so soon.” She said.
*CRIK*
*CRACKLE*
*PIP*
*PAP*
*POP*
“Eh…?”
The croc raised his brow as a sudden series of sparks erupted from her paw before his very eyes. Then, to his shock, it turned into a full storm’s worth of lightning, and even more surprising, it was fully contained in the palm of her paw.
“What in blazes…!” the croc started, but it was too late to dodge or block.
*POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW*
Before he could regain his senses, the paw containing the lightning was used to strike him in his chest, once again making contact with his chest plate, and sending so much raw power through his body, it literally felt like a star was burning into his chest.
“GHEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!”
*POW*
He was shot back, bouncing several feet and into another stand before coming to a complete stop. Not stopping her attack, Angel Eyes focused the power in her body, and forced her artificial storm to move itself into the shape of a wall, which completely surrounded them in the market square, trapping them both inside.
Trando was at a loss for words. He had fought, defeated, and killed dozens of adversaries; from thieves to killers, to kidnappers, all the way to dark worshipers. But never in all his contracts had he ever encountered anyone like this. Where someone like a mage was merely a storm’s humble guide, this stranger had presented herself as its all-powerful master, containing its strikes, and then releasing it where she commanded.
He used his sword to get to his feet, and watched as she aimed her fingers right at him, and then…
*CRAAACK-KOOOOOOOW*
Another bolt was thrust at him. Thanks to the distance, he was able to dodge it, but felt the impact as it tore through the shop, and blew a massive hole in the building behind it.
“No…ye DON’T!!” he demanded. Shocking as this was, he wouldn’t let any stranger, unnatural or otherwise get the best of him. His aim was to win, no matter what.
*CRACK-KOW*
He jumped to the side, avoiding the blow.
*CRACK-KOW*
He jumped to the other side.
“Hold still, dammit!” she said.
*CRACK-KOW*
He leaped into the air, avoiding the blow it shot into the earth. Now mid-air, he raised his sword over his head and swung it down towards his attacker, intent on stabbing her in the head.
*PLANG*
She dodged it, and side-stepped right as he planted his weapon deep into the earth, giving her time to swing her own sword, but Trando spun to his left, forcing her dao to make contact with his sai instead.
*PING*
And then…
*PLAUAHSH*
He pulled his sword from the earth and swung hard.
*SWOOSH*
She leaped into the air, flipping several times, swinging her sword town three times as she flipped over his head. Each strike ripped off a little bit of his cape. As soon as she landed, she did a sweep kick at his face, and then his legs. He dodged her first kick while his armor took the blow of the second kick. Then Trando swung his sword in a stabbing motioned, but she arched her back to dodged, bringing her sword behind her back to keep his blade from slicing into her. Then she forced him to slide out of the way and she swung her sword over her head several times before she leaped into the air again, aiming two fingers at him as she soared above him.
“WHOA!!”
*CRACK-KOW*
The blow was literally right next to his feet and would have been his head if he hadn’t jumped back. Angel Eyes then swung her sword over her head.
*CLANG*
The impact forced him to his knees, but he forced himself up immediately, making her fly in the air. Several flips later, she landed on the ground with her back facing him; she turned around and started swinging her sword around and around as she charged. Trando did the same, and they swung their weapons at each other, making contact every three blows or so.
“Come on, then!” he shouted, trying to slide her sword out of her paws. She wouldn’t have it though, and kept her grip tight, despite him using his size to his advantage once again.
“HRAUGH!”
*SWOOSH*
He swung sideways to try and cut off her head, but she slid her legs in a position that forced her to duck.
“HRUGH!!”
*SWOOSH*
He tried again, this time lower, but she jumped into the air, and then…
*POW*
Delivered a kick into his chest plate, this time denting the armor and making him stumble.
*CRACK-KOW*
*CRACK-KOW*
Several more strikes of lightning and he was now losing ground, but then he readied his sai, and…
*Shi-Shi-Shi-Shi*
*PANG*
Threw it like a throwing knife. It made direct contact with her sword, making it fly out of her paw. It landed on the gravel road.
“Gotcha now!!” he exclaimed in triumph. He readied his sword in the stabbing position and charged her.
“YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!”
*POW*
She side-stepped to the left as soon as he was close enough, made a quick and perfectly aimed strike to the head, and then grabbed him by the wrists. Before he had time to recover, he was thrown back to where he just was as she spun him around and tossed him back over, landing with a thud.
“Oof!!” he grunted. “Ghaaa…!”
“I’ve had enough a’ this.” She said.
*Crick*
*Crackle*
*Crick*
*Crack*
The wall of electricity she formed around them returned to the palms of her paws, focusing the energy and morphing it into the way that she saw fit. Still lying on the ground, the croc watched as the lightning in her paws was forced to stabilize itself under the command of her very will, straightening itself, sharpening itself, and finally taking the form of a bright blue blade, its color the same as her eyes.
*PWUAAAAOOH*
She had just constructed a sword made out of pure plasma.
…
“Give up yet?” the cheetah asked, her plasma blade aimed right at him as he looked at her while he was sitting on his ass.
Normally, she wouldn’t bother using her powers to the extent of a plasma weapon, and for that matter, she wouldn’t even be using her powers at all. But it had been extraordinarily stressful for Angel Eyes at the time. She had been flung several thousand years to the past, landed in an era where she was separated from her shapeshifting companion, forced to find herself a sword that wouldn’t break on contact every five strikes, and worst of all, still got hit on by every horny idiot who layed eyes on her every time she wanted a drink.
It was all painfully the same, despite the fact it was so painfully different, and she had had it.
“I, uh…” the croc said.
“You uh…you uh…you give up or not?!” she demanded.
The croc looked at her with shock, before slowly rising to his feet. “How are ye doin’ that?” he asked.
“It doesn’t matter!” she answered. She looked to her sword, lying on the side, and with her psychic reach, she picked it up, and it was flung back into her paw. She sheathed the weapon and looked back to the croc, who seemed more confused than afraid. He slowly approached her, and took a long look at her plasma blade, still steady in her psychic grasp.
“Doesn’t matter?” he repeated. “Lass, I’ve seen plenty of weird things durin’ me jobs. Done a few weird things too. But this? I’ve never seen anything like it.”
He looked at her. “No mage has done anythin’ like this.”
“That’s because I ain't-a mage.” She corrected. “I’m a psychic. I do weird, unnatural shit like this all the time. This is my variation of normal.”
“Normal?” the croc asked. “Lass, ye seem to be plenty ways away from normal to me.”
“Look! There they are!” someone shouted in the distance.
“I see them! Block their escape!” another responded.
Taking initiative yet again, the croc ran around her and picked up his sai. He sheathed it, and the next thing they knew, they were back to back.
…
Trando watched as a large number of human guards ran into view, wearing the town’s standard armor, carrying spears, shields, and pointy helmets.
“Ugh…it had to be humans.” Trando said. Of all the creatures of the world, the ugly, oily, frail, and snobby human race was probably his least favorite.
“BY THE ORDER OF HIS MAJESTY THE KING, YOU SHALL BOTH DROP YOUR WEAPONS AND SURRENDER!!” the captain commanded.
“THE HELL I WILL!!” Angel Eyes shouted back. “I JUST GOT THIS SWORD!!”
For the first time since meeting each other, the two of them were in agreement.
“AYE! YE KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO SAVE UP FOR A WEAPON THIS FINE!? I AIN'T GIVING IT UP TO THE LIKES OF YOU!!”
The humans all pointed their shields at them and took a battle stance.
“LAST WARNING!! SURRENDER NOW!!”
The croc and the feline stood back to back, their blades ready for any possible attack while their eyes looked carefully at each one of those guards, looking for any sign of movement.
It was in that moment that the croc hit a realization, making his stomach cringe up with embarrassment.
“Angel Eyes…?”
“Yeah?”
“Why did you attack those people at the pub?”
“Because they tried to steal my sword.”
“CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!!!!” the human captain commanded. Then all at once, the humans roared and ran towards them, un-coordinated, unbalanced, and wobbling their spears.
Then the only things that could be heard from miles around were the sounds of blades clanking, blood spilling, guts splattering, and humans screaming. Both Trando and Angel Eyes were slashing away with ease, slowly taking their own fights away from each other. This day had immediately turned to the croc’s most embarrassing moment to date; he had challenged, fought, and almost died at the hand of some psychic, unnatural foreigner freak who may or may not have been from the future, and wasted the whole day on what may have been a good time drinking due to a misunderstanding he didn’t even bother wanting to know about until it was too late.
One thing he did know, however, was that he would NOT be coming back to this city ever again.
