Something I tagged on one of the walls of the hate closet.
*disclaimer* This is a rainbow alliance project and I am not anti gay at all, so please dont take it that way.
This is for the rainbow alliance "hate closet"
On the outside, all of the negative things that people say about the lgbt community. Articles about hate crimes. Photos of hate crime victims, protests, and anti gay propaganda. The outside of the closet is meant to be shocking and horrifying.
On the inside, pro lgbt photos. Articles of all the good things that we've done and the contributions that we've made to society.
The idea is you have to get around all the negative things you hear to get to see the good that lies within.
Will probably be scrapp'D at some point.

Do you guys think I should tag this mature because of subject matter?
And for those of you who dont know... Matthew Shepard was a victim of a hate crime. His mother found his body on a fence the next day... ;-; It was an enormous public outrage and raised a lot of awareness to the plight of lgbt people.

Ill make some note in the title and make the description a little more detailed so people understand what its about..
Its our hate closet. The outside is articles about lgbt hate crimes and negative things that have been said about the community.. this was either tagged somewhere or on a sign, I dont remember, but we got all of them from things people have actually done. The inside of the closet is going to be all the good things we've done.

I am glad I saw it, it reminds me that while I may be somewhat safe and comfortable, there is someone who still may be being persecuted for something beyond their control. It reminded me of this past summer, my father calling one of my friends "a strange little fag" and my brother jumping in telling him that "fag" was his boyfriend. I am thankful for GLBTQ orginizations, they help so many, I wish someone was there when I was going through it. Keep up the good fight!
Yeah.. Seeing and hearing things like this horrify me, but it reminds me of why Im an activist and why what Im doing is important. I know a lot of people who didnt have anyone they could go to when they first realised.. Thats one huge thing that I hope we can change in the future. That schools honestly *will* start to teach kids that it IS okay to be gay.

Damn do I hate them. XD I saw this great article... they were out protesting somewhere, and these people showed up with signs to counter protest... only it was random shit like "God hates unicorns" No one even payed attention to the westboro guys. :P
