So little quick discussion wasnt enough. So I decided to go for a little bit of a rant instead to make myself feel better.
TL:DL Lack of sexy in video games ruining the experience is a (TO ME) a valid complaint.

It makes me sad that NetherRealm Studios has chosen to go for this "realistic" art style and body type, because that exaggerated comic book style of MK 9 really worked in its favor.
Here's something my friend told me,
"Sex appeal, regardless of who it's for, is a core factor in all art. To try and remove it or deny it only lends to the detriment of the art. For proof of this, try and force an artist to go one month without drawing any form of pornography. They'll either go bankrupt, go mad, kill themselves or all three at the same time."

I can't speak to Mortal Kombat, because I'm not huge into the series.
But I have this same problem with Overwatch. Once you see that characters like Mercy, Tracer, Windowmaker, Bridgette, and Ashe all have the exact same face and bodytype, it's hard *not* to notice it.
Zarya and Moira are the sole exceptions.
Your argument is less that there's not "less sexy" per se, it's an argument that there needs to be more diverse female body types in video games, and it's one I will gladly champion along with you.
Give me my plus-sized/bodybuilding/strongwoman ladies!

Serious comment tho...
While I do agree that some games do tend to glorify sexually perfect and unattainable bodies in an unhealthy way... I feel like in many ways, sexuality in females is almost becoming vilified as it was in earlier times... but in the exact opposite direction.
Whereas in the past, the "HORROR OF FEMALE SEXUALITY" was blamed on women for their sinful thoughts, now female sexuality is seen as a vulnerability that's exploited by the wicked male gaze. It's like we're seeing a return to puritan ideals, but with inverted reasoning behind it. And both genders are suffering for it, just as they did before.
MK is making women into svelte twigs because honestly, franchises that big tend to have big audiences, with a larger proportionate amount of activists. And whether or not they have jiggle physics, giving a character large breasts or alluring hips could be a PR nightmare.
The sensationalist gaming media, always looking to jump on the next big scandal, could accuse the studio of deliberately degrading women, so they kinda have to play it safe and make the females as un-sexualized as possible. It's the "safest" option by a very wide margin. Because if audiences complain about a woman's large breasts, they're calling out the chauvinist pigs who designed the character. But if audiences complain about a woman's LACK of breasts... well then clearly the complainer doesn't care about the woman they're attached to.
I'm not saying the devs are RIGHT to do it. But you must understand, it's the best way for them to avoid negative feedback.
That's why you'll see more "bold" choices of character design in indie developers. Because they don't have as much to lose.

Honestly I'd listen to more of these Daigo you have a great voice.
Kinda late to the talk here but like, I agree, I'm all for variety in body types. If a developer wants to make characters sexy, they should be allowed to, but I have a problem when they keep creating a double standard. That's all I really ask for, is fairness in how different types of people are portrayed in the fiction.
