And let's face it there really do need to be more giant monsters in history. For instance, Godzilla (Gojira), in being one of the first Japanese-made movies after the bombing of Hiroshima, is actually a metaphor for nuclear warfare.

Yeah, but there's other things done as a metaphor for other things. The original Rampage monsters, Lizzy, George, and Ralph were humans turned monster by chemical experimentation gone wrong.

Yet that was a marketing ploy for a video game. Gojira struck a chord with Japanese cinema-lovers (and later the whole world) due to the awesome and destructive power of the nuclear bomb. Beneath the camp B-movie quality of the tokusatsu (giant monster and rubber-clad hero) movies and TV shows is a fear of what diseased science can do to an entire country.

Well, that maybe, but only evidence of nuclear radiation affecting the life around it other than the victims after the bomb drop and the heat killing some coral, is that some earthworms have grown bigger than normal. It has merit scientifically, but a lot of things do with our vast sciences.

I was just watching a documentary about the Berlin Wall the other day, even showed some rather creative escapes across the wall, including home-made hot air balloons and ultralite planes disguised as Soviet military aircraft to prevent them from being fired on by the guards.

I was in Berlin for Tag der deutschen Einheit last month, and saw the places through which the wall once ran. It's a surreal feeling to realize that in that city, which seemed so peaceful and ordinary at the time, this was occurring 20 years ago.

Very nice, one! I remember that day and the spirit of optimism here in Germany at that time. Thank you for this image.
