Were does the true nature of the hero lies? Is it on the high tech armor and weaponry that envelops the wearer? or does the essence of heroism lies deeper inside.
Samus Aran was a revelation to gamers around the world once her true gender was uncovered at the end of her first adventure. Now this common knowledge has been accentuated to such a point that she has become a character with two distinctive and defined facets to her:
There is the iconic Varia Suit Samus Aran; the relentless and deadly powerhouse capable of taking down the most dangerous alien creatures in the galaxy and hunt the most elusive of bounties ever to have been set price upon. And then there is Zero Suit Samus Aran; the agile, nimble woman under the armor. While she was revealed to us as a beautiful woman, first and foremost she is the heart and
soul that made possible what the Metroid games are. And for once showed a female character in a strong lead role
that, going against the grain, wore the logical kind of armor for the task at hand.
While admitedly the newer facet of the Zero Suit has permeated Samus with a charge of eroticism that was mostly absent in her previous outings (give or take the SNES "under 3 hours game completion reward") I don't believe this has cheapened her appeal as a strong lead character, for being attractive is not contrary or detracts from being a competent, strong and intelligent female character.
Samus has demonstrated through her actions why with armor or not, she is a great hero.
I just could not decide if I wanted to draw Varia Suit or Zero suit so I said: "Ahh screw it, I'll do both" This is my
biggest piece to date: 7112 x 4000 pixels, it took me about 20 hours give or take, although I was not able to work on it as frequently as I wished. Way too many interruptions during the process :/
But finally I was able to set some time aside to finish it.

Also, my apologies for the lack of updates here at FA, and I'll promise my next update will be furry related.

My mouth gaped when I saw the awesomeness of this piece hehe...VERY great job. And I always thought Samus was a guy until me n my friend were just playin Super Metroid on the SNES and then died for the first time...we both kinda freaked hehe. But anyways Samus in my opinion is one of those few iconic heroes. What she lost, how she dealt with it, and simply how she lives her life. (They had comics of it btw if anyone cares or doesn't know hehe) And we also have to include the biggest thing, Samus is a woman....a woman that can definitely kick ass. x.=.x ....also one of my favorite heroes. ^.=.^
I would not say that the Zero Suit sucks, it is not that much different from what say, Spiderman would wear, but i can see why this concession made by Nintendo could bother some Metroid fans. Either way, I don't thinks it detracts from the character if taken into the proper context. Please do enjoy the new background.
A common argument. I relate it to Superman Versus Batman. Most people think the powers make the hero. Instead, I believe the hero has to be heroic.
Samus has the benefit of powers, but she must earn them throughout her adventures, and she must learn to use, apply and adapt to them properly. What good is being the strongest force in the universe, if you don't know how to use it? Not to mention the times she's managed to make due without her powers altogether.
With or without, she's heroic, and a galactic savior.

She is a Chozo warrior to the end, but also a kind soul. A silent calm collected type. One thing interesting is how she was raised by the Chozo but seems to differ from them. Chozo are enlightened beings of peaceful and intelligence, yet Samus dons a Chozo power suit. She was given the clear thought that evil shall die in any form and will do anything for the good of all even if it means defying orders.
Well I only played various games of Metroid. I can't help but feel sad for Samus though, the day she left with her suit was the day she lost her parents to Space Pirates - they still gave her the greatest understanding morality and ethics even if she is a Bounty Hunter. I actually loved finding Chozo lore that reflects upon Samus; Despite not being their own, they are proud and love their hatchling fighting evil in any form.
