Chocolate Valentines Day Shreaver Adopt
Introducing Shreavers 2.0 !
Hidden within the catacombs beneath Korrslith Manor, a quiet yet curious child goes exploring. The year was 1573 and Sylzar Korrslith was beckoned into the abandoned hallways that littered the underground of his family’s home by the quiet sound of a voice. This voice visited him in his dreams, spoke to him when he was alone and tempted him with the promise of power until finally he gave in. Curiosity overcame the boy as he snuck away from his parents to brave the darkness of the windy halls, the breeze rushing over his pale skin until he was covered in tiny bumps.
“Closer” whispered the voice as he stepped up to an old wooden door, the voice ringing louder and louder in his ears the closer he got to the door. “Closer…” he could feel the brush of wind trail down the back of his neck, causing a shiver to run downhis spine as he took a hold of the brass doorknob. “That’s it, boy…” the whispering grew even louder, more excited as the metallic lock that was on the door lit up with an electrical current, only to fall to the floor with a thud. Sylzar was terrified, his hand was shaking against the doorknob and yet he couldn’t pull away, he turned the brass handle and pulled back, the door slowly creaking open before laughter suddenly erupted through the corridors. The door flew open was suddenly shoved to the ground by what felt like a gale force wind slamming into his chest. He hit the wall behind him and sunk to the ground as the cackling of a thousand voices rushed passed him and into the catacombs. His vision was blurred and his mind was hazy but he could still see the figure of a giant creature stepping out from behind the door, a multitude of smaller creatures rushing by the boy and disappeared into the darkness.
“You have done well by freeing us, boy” The voice hissed around Sylzar’s head “We thank you for your service, and we will repay out debt when the time comes.” The creature let out a devious cackle before disappearing into the darkness and soon all that was left was the boy, half dazed and slumped over against the wall. Everything fell silent and for the first time in years, he no longer heard the voice inside his head, but was it worth releasing that thing into the world?
Canis Tenebris are more commonly known as “Shreavers” and are carnivorous creatures belonging to the canine species, or so many scholars have suspected. In fact, there has never been a recorded instance of a scientific autopsy performed on a Shreaver which, unfortunately, means there is very little scientific evidence to base claims on. Contrary to science, though, there are quite a few rumours and myths circulating about the existence of Shreavers. Many believe they are demons sent to punish the sinful. Others believe they are hateful ghosts who’ve returned to the mortal realm to seek revenge on those who wronged them. Some believe they are shadows come to life by ways of sorcery and magic.
The first recorded sighting of a Shreaver was in the late 1500s and, ever since, they have been a nuisance to society. While it doesn’t seem that Shreavers are malicious in nature they definitely take on a devious persona by toying with their prospective victims but never going so far as to hurt them. In fact, Shreavers are quite passive creatures, preferring to use subterfuge and trickery to scare people rather than outright attacking them and, if engaged in a physical conflict, Shreavers will be quick to disengage. They are mischievous in nature and are skilled in the art of audible imitation, allowing them to mimic an array of noises such as car alarms, animals and even people. Their imitations are near perfect and they can be quite complex, often using their talents to take any opportunity they can to scare the unsuspecting or frighten the faint of heart.
Shreavers are unusually tall creatures, rising to stand upwards of eight feet, with a monochromatic complexion and bright glowing eyes. They prove the most devious at night, their uncanny stealth allowing them to move through shadows like a ghost. They thrive in total darkness and, with their ability to shadow walk, they can jump quickly from shadow to shadow without being seen. This proves useful when scaling buildings, their forms seeming to shift and merge with the darkness like a midnight blanket, allowing them to freely scale buildings in mere seconds. They aren’t totally reliant on the shadows, however, as their bony structure grants them additional appendages which manifest themselves as “hooks” on their arms and legs, allowing them to pierce stone and wood with ease and, in turn, climb incredibly swiftly.
One of the strangest skills presented by the Shreavers is their ability to manipulate energy in a concentrated space around their body. Scholars suspect that this “shadowy mist” is what allows them to shift the matter of their bodies to blend with shadows, but also allows them to manipulate their aura in a multitude of ways. Their mist allows them to make “shadow puppets,” which are a projection of their mist that can mock objects, animals and even people to create a shadowy being that they use in conjunction with their sound manipulation techniques to frighten their victims. Little testing has been able to be conducted, but it is theorized that the Shreavers can manipulate energy around them for both defensive and utility purposes, creating shields, weapons, tools and the like for any situation they’re in.
Ultimately, Shreavers are non-aggressive, devious tricksters who enjoy the thrill of scaring unsuspecting victims. Stay away from them, and they’ll probably stay away from you…probably.
