Oddly the car came to me with a nifty behaviour. Turn right, the high beams turn on, turn left, the regular beams turn on. Use the high beam dip, the fuse blows!
The switch is fine, and actually, the desirable SWF metal mechanism*, one of the three used during the production of the 140 series.
Somehow all the wiring was messed up.
After getting the signals to work I then discovered turning left turned on the right flasher and turning right turned on the left flasher.
Study the wiring diagram....

There is a layer of grime and oil on every part of this car.
*I have yet to get used to this signal switch, it's action is sooo light and the 'turn exit cancel' has such a subtle click. I have a spare coming from Australia.
