the Aengel race has a collective consciousness. unlike the Master Puppets these creatures never had a free will. created by Re they follow his orders without question. the closer they remain to their master, the stronger they become. they have the ability to travel between dimensions.

the black crystal orbs that appear to be their heads are their actual bodies.

the protoplast forms, which look always absolutely the same on every Aengel, clonelike, somewhat undone, androgynous - pale white humanoid bodies with giant white, birdlike wings - are mere vessels. an additional weapon. they can manipulate their "suits" to a certain degree, like forming blades out of their extremities.

although impressive fighters, their most deadly weapon is something one would call 'non-existance-ray' - a beam, shot out of one of these orbs will not just destroy but erase almost everything it will touch from its current plain of existence. one such shot will cost an aengel a lot of energy and can only be repeated after a certain amount of time.

an Aengel can only be killed permanently if its orb is destroyed.
else they can always be recreated by Re.

these orbs however, separated from their "hostbody" can still be used as keys to open gateways between dimensions if one knows how to use them.

Fyre posesses one, so does Keeper and also Hoed.

Re uses the Aengels to seek out and erase worlds in order to track down and obtain all of the 13 avatar powers while at the same time weaken the forces who might oppose him. which is basically everything ever created.

however the further an aengel travels away from Re, the less Re can control its mind. so it's quite often that only a single Aengel is sent into a certain world/ dimension/time period to search for the avatars while at the same time trying destroy said world. usually extremely weird dimensions or worlds with little to no magic are the targets for such a procedure.
