usually by being massively wealthy and well supported by huge hives. like they have hives so big that they're effectively queens in the normal people sense (even if the position is more like a national treasure like the british royal family)
they effectively have their own small countries, or companies that have been running for centuries. also not all old queens hide, that's more of a thing that young vulnerable queens need to do.
