Basically there are three states of Furiten
1. Discard furiten
If any tile in your discards can be theoretically pulled out to complete your hand, you may not call a winning tile from another person's discard, even if it's not the same tile.
2. Temporary Furiten
If a player discards a tile you can win on and you don't call, you may not call a winning tile another player drops until you draw and discard another tile.
3. Permanent - Temporary Furiten
If you Riichi, you are not allowed to change your wait. Because of this, the Draw and discard effect from temporary riichi is voided because everybody can assume your wait did not change, therefore temporary furiten can no longer be removed.
