UPDATE: This is an small re-post with minor changes done to the old drawing, mostly on the arm cannon and minor changes done to the shadows.
Sorgos was a Red color SuperHuman Warrior Beast and the Monster of the week on Ep.46 of the Great Mazinger Anime, and was an oddity among its Brethren: he looked more mechanical, than a cyborg, which the Army is composed of - Had antenna dish in the head which was encase a transparent blue dome and stomach, which was a massive fire flame thrower, with the red cone in the center been a magnet. His right arm held a missile launcher and a Sonic wave laser, and his left arm could be launch much like a Rocket Punch. Sorgos more noticeable feature was his size, been a massive 100 meter tall monster, dwarfing any enemy or commander, and the artificial sun on his back which powers the magnet and flame thrower, but the glow will weaken if used too much, so moderation was required.
In the episode, an exasperated Great Marshall of Hell awaits for the new Warrior Beast for the upcoming attack. Meanwhile Tetsuya had befriended a young man by the name of Yoishi (apologies if I mispronounce it, is difficult to get the names right in the Spanish dub), w.hos is the teenage son of scientist and Great Mazinger fan, and by some dumb reason, Tetsuya promised him to allow him pilot the Great Mazinger if he beaten him. The new friendship has made Shiro jealous. The two have a boxing match and Yoishi is defeated, leaving him distraught.
Note1: I would make an all out tantrum of “why da hell would Tetsuya promise a thing like that?”, but then again, the main scientist built a robot for his youngest son because of reasons.
Back in the Empire, Sorgos introduces itself to the Great Marshal and General Julicaesar, and shows his weaponry and is sent out on the Demonica, coming out of Mount Fuji, he is detected and Great is launched and Borot goes along. As soon the Mecha finds the beast, his weaponry has no effect on him, and is Shutdown, Borot, runs away as soon he sees the Monster. Tetsuya tries to use Pectoral Missiles and the Great sword on it, but these are attracted by the magnet and he throws them onto the artificial sun. Sorgos uses its Sonic wave which disrupts Great Mazinger, making it inoperable. As Tetsuya resigns to its fate, Sorgos grabs Great about to throw him into the artificial sun, when Venus A shows up tries to stop him with no effect, suddenly the Beast goes out of control, drops Great Mazinger and retreats. Tetsuya wakes up in the infirmary, distraught and incapable to think of a way to defeat the monster, having develop a single fear of death...
Note2: “why would the guy who has been so close to death MULTIPLE times develops fear of death near the tail end of the series?” is the sort of question Philosophers and Fan fiction writers will be pondering for many ages to come. This is one of those episodes where it feels rushed specially with what it is reveal next.
As Sorgos is been recharged for the next attack, Yoishi and his father pay a visit so the boy can bid farewell, and this is where the Episode tries to pull the heart strings in its con-deluded subplot...
You see, Yoishi is dying, having been exposed to an unknown substance in his father's lab from an experiment that failed and exploded, likely it was radioactive, and Yoishi was left contaminated and with no way for treatment and is about to die on that day, when the last stages of his condition kick in and Yoishi is taken to the infirmary and to make matters worst Demonica appears and Sorgos goes to attack the lab. Yoishi begging him to defeat the monster, reinvigorated by Yoishi's subplot (I mean wish … SOMEHOW?) Tetsuya on Great goes to fight Sorgos.
Again, Great's weapons prove ineffective, all of them getting burn by the Artificial Sun. Great then dashes towards the beast, impacting it and falling into the water, Sorgos again emerges firing its magnets on Great when a thunder volt hits the Sun, disrupting him in the process. Having found his weakness, Tetsuya fires Thunder Break as the Monster blasts its flame thrower onto Great, the two making a stand off against the other, but Sorgos begins to deplete its energy and Sorgos explodes.
By the time Tetsuya returns to Yoishi, he had already passed away, Tetsuya and the others mourning his passing.
