The black sclera is not a mutation but extreme modification Vex paid for with the money he earned stealing people for the black market, getting a fair share of the profit he decided to dye his hair, put more details on his feathers with black dye and then putting a color similar to his chest to make it pop more. These were the tame one, he was tired of the red pinkish flesh color of his mouth and crotch area so he paid a high amount to tattoo these black hiding their true color from anyone, then wanted to stand even more so he paid for his sclera to be black as well.
he was lucky it did not screw up his vision, the people tend to not stay near him because he weirds them out, not all though some admire his persistence to stand out from the rest of his male Kin. he even trained his voice for year to sound lower pitch, more manly due to his original voice being girly and high pitch, and no one was taking him seriously.
