Well this is cool! Turns out Krita can automatically create flats out of rough sketches, and it does a damn fine job of it. You just scribble the colors you want on another layer, and it's so good it even filled the holes in her hair and tail. It only takes a minute or two- Maybe 10 minutes if you want to divide the character into regions for easy coloring, like I did here: https://sta.sh/21oigti62x2c
Krita is free to download here https://krita.org/en/download/krita-desktop/ , and you want this menu https://sta.sh/01ws7uz04zhu found under Filter -> "Start G'MIC-Qt". I've only used it a couple times but damn! This is going to be such a time saver- The marvel guys used to pay people to make these flats, now it's just a few pen strokes! And it opens the door for splashing some easy colors on quickie sketches so they're more appealing =D
Oh yeah and maybe some day I'll finish the sequence this sketch is from =P

It's decent- Pretty shockingly good considering it's free actually. I used it for this pic here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/29471272/ Buuuut compared to photoshop it's kind of a pain in the ass. I elaborate at the end of that pic's description.
If you're just starting out it's probably a lot better than paying for software. But if you're sinking dozens or hundreds of hours into art, I'd pay the $10 a month for PS =P

The tool sets are pretty similar, they're often just lacking compared to PS. Here's a direct link to my comparison https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....1R46s_C-k/edit you'll see a lot of 'magic wand tool is shit' 'bucket tool is shit' etc
It does seem to have more brush adjustments and features for sure, that's why I've been using it for sketches; my tablet drivers are busted and Photoshop can't adjust the pen pressure curve like krita can, for darker lines. Its animation system didn't stand out to me looking it over, what makes you say it's better than photoshops?
That being said, for colored work I tend to use very simple brushes and a big reliance on automations and more powerful other tools. Photoshop was way less annoying to color in https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....1R46s_C-k/edit

Those were just style choices. The thick lines, the simplified character and huge ass etc, the voice actress specifically requested them and I figured it'd be nice to experiment.
I could have made it look almost exactly like my Photoshop drawings. That being said, Krita is kind of a pain in the ass compared to PS.

I am going to add that G'MIC is also available as a standalone application, and as a GIMP plug in if you fancy that.
Since G'MIC is open source, it should be possible to add this function in any program that supports plug ins, but I have been unable to see extensions for Photoshop and Clip Studio, for example.
That said, since both GIMP and Krita can open PSD files. It may be less of a hassle to do the coloring there and import back to your tool of choice than to work just with an exported layer.

Yep! The official documentation over at their SourceForge page is a bit off, but it's still more up to date in some fields compared to Krita's. And they also have this reference https://gmic.eu/reference.shtml
But yeah. Having it bundled in sure is a time saver
PS: had a deep and forgot to put "reply to this post". Fixed now. Haha
