It was hard for Kaari after her mother called, demanding she return home. She was on a mission, certainly. She had orders to stay as the dream was too close to collapse for a safe return. Nothing felt right, especially not her mother just hanging up the phone like that in the middle of how much she needed her daughter RIGHT NOW. At least that's what Kaari figured was being said, she should call Mother back, and apologize for whatever happened.
No Service.
Just an alert notice saying that the phone relays were going offline and will not be returning in this dream. Oh. Probably getting things out of the way for when things go down, whenever that will be. Kaari got up and stumbled a bit down the length of the Fluff Empress until Gluneria caught her.
"It won't be too long now, an hour tops, just stick with it. We're safe," Glue's words seemed to be trying to comfort her for something entirely different than what was upsetting her, and Kaari blinked at Glue.
"What? I... just got off the phone with Mother, is all," she blurted out. Maybe Glue would understand why she's feeling upset.
"Ouch... that on top of a dream collapse. Not good, let's sit down on the floor for this."
"Collapse? That's..."
"Happening right now," Glue sighed, making her tails into a bit of a nest for Kaari to hide in, "We've lost contact with two beacons already. Glad ATC already cleared the skies of any Dreamspinners, anyone trying to fly in this wouldn't make it to a Ruin before..."
"Oh... oh my," Kaari realized, then, that the knots of pain, sorrow, and regret weren't just her own, but the entire dream fluctuating through her as it was collapsing. Glue seemed to be handling it better, but of course she would... she knew what they felt like already. She could prepare herself. Kaari just had textbooks with bland commentary.
Glue was right. Mother's call, the way things were said... it was a lot on top of all the energies breaking up around the dream, she should...
And then the turmoil was gone, and for a few breaths just the energies from the Antiquity Archives were around her, the walls of the Fluff Empress, and Glue's voice, "There it goes. Pop. We'll be someplace better very shortly, okay? Then we can sort things out. It'll just be a few minutes until we're in a different dream."
"Okay..." then Kaari noticed that Glue had shut off her phone.
"And then your sponsor asked me to call her, when we're someplace else," Glue put a finger to her lips, "She wants to talk to you before your mother can."
"My... sponsor?" Kaari was a little confused, to say the least. This was just a basic beacon mission, not the sort that some noble would have put in for, right?
"Yes. Maeka. Maeka Dill," Kaari's great-great... however many times great aunt. Mother had said she curried favors in ways that no other Dill could. Always made her sound less than trustworthy, but... at the same time, it was Maeka's work that Mother constantly leaned on for her own favors, wasn't it?
"Okay."
