An elf finds himself captive to a degenerate underground race known as the Derro. Despite his wounds, he seems to have been sparred a destiny on the dinner table as one of his captors appears to have taken a liking to him. Still Rannath is a being of principles: a code which may now stand between him and doing what is necessary to survive.

Well deviants, let me introduce you to two characters you will get well familiar with. Before rocket ships and high school(soon), Vide the Derro & Rannath the Snow Elf emerged as characters I could easily insert into any given RPG setting. My flare would almost always require that a bit of rewrite or addition to by-the-book canon, never writing characters for a particular setting like Eberron or Greyhawk. Certainly I never leave well enough alone in accepting a race as-is. That being said the story of these two were always intertwined.
In most versions Rannath & his adventuring companions run into a Derro raiding party which they defeat. Vide’s life is spared and the mad cannibal develops a Gollum complex: tagging along as Rannath has to deal with the reality that even in the nearly-impossible event of converting an evil creature immediately: one cannot merely turn a life upside down and walk away.
But while the naive white knight (with Machiavellian plans) and charming rogue (who is a Yandere murderer) duo has its place; the alternate story where Vide’s clan wins the encounter is also worth telling. It might in fact be a fair bit more interesting…if really really dark by comparison.
