" The old cramped passage was grimy and filled with cobwebs. It obviously hadn't been used in a very long time. Luck crawled the length of the tunnel on her belly and emerged under a bed. She remained still and could easily hear loud snoring coming from above her. Moving swiftly, she crawled out from under the bed and looked back at the face of the enemy. The black furred lion slept soundly, the rumbles from his snores shook Luck lightly where she stood. "This male tried to have 'Neki beaten and raped. That's probably one of the reasons Sly had me come here instead of her. He probably didn't think that I had my own reasons to hate him as well, but I do…" she thought as she pulled her dagger from its sheath. Murderous thoughts filled her mind as she contemplated what she could easily do. "This male has caused so much pain in his wicked life. He’s hurt me and those I care about beyond measure, and I could end him right here." she continued in thought as she moved the dagger over his heart. "Dull blade or not I can still pierce his heart with it. The blade's magical properties would be ruined, but I could get revenge for myself, 'Neki...and..." she thought before an image appeared in her mind. It was of Maneki. She was smiling happily. Another image appeared next to her. This time it was a collar, and on it was a rune she recognized instantly; the Rune of Obedience. Maneki's face began to distort into one of fear as Bartholomew's smug smiling face appeared behind her. Luck's breathing began to quicken as her anger reached a boiling point before a voice registered in her mind. "Let it go." said the familiar male voice. Luck snapped out of her trance and noticed that time had seemingly stopped around her as evidenced by the lack of the sound of Bartholomew's snoring, even though he was still in a sleeping wide open mouthed position. "I said you have to let it go." said the voice again; this time off to her right. Luck turned in confusion to see a male standing there in the corner. Luck took a step back as she tried to process what was happening before her. “A trap?” she thought as she focused on the figure. And to her surprise it looked like Sly. “What?” she asked confused at this revelation.
"What's going on? Why are you here?" said Luck as she looked at the ghostly glowing form of the wolfox before her. "You're going to have to let it go." said the male again just as cryptically. "I don't understand what's happening. Let what go?" she asked confused. "The mentality you have of having to protect Maneki. She's not a kid anymore." replied Sly. "But what about..." "...Bartholomew? Yes he tried to have her beaten and raped, but think about how she handled it. She didn't ask you to kill or even hurt him did she? You already know two truths about this situation Kitten. That she has chosen to take her revenge in a different way than you're used to. And that she has already chosen her ally to help her take it." said the male. "You." said Luck realizing. "Yes. You'll remember that I said that this mission you're both on right now would hurt Bartholomew significantly. I've spent years planning it. Think about what you're about to do right now. Kill him now and you gratify yourself, but you deny both Maneki and myself what we've plotted. And you know you'll net yourself a hefty punishment for going against your orders. You'd also ruin your father’s knife, and we both know how much it means to you. You'd thought it was gone forever. Do you really want to throw it away so soon after getting it back?" asked the wolfox seriously. Luck stared at the ghostly male seriously. "This can't be real, but he's speaking the truth. Since I met her I've been treating Maneki like she needs to be protected, but as of late; she's been the one protecting me." thought Luck as she remembered that Maneki first took the deal to become Sly's pet to keep him from coming after her. "Since then she's been trying to make sure I stay out of trouble. She put her faith in Sly for this, and he's put his trust in us to complete the tasks he gave us. If I do different and kill him here Sly might not just punish me. He might punish Maneki as well." thought Luck looking down at Bartholomew's frozen sleeping form. "Trust in her. She's trusted in you all these years since you found her. Doesn't she deserve the same?" asked Sly simply. Luck sighed defeated. "Yes. She does. And she's spent a lot more time with you than I have. If she's willing to put her faith in you; then I guess the least I can do is trust in her decision and put mine in you too." she said as she pulled her dagger away and sheathed it. Her anger subsided; she looked back up at the ghostly canine as he began to disappear with a smile. “Good girl Kitten…” he said softly as he faded away completely. Time began to move forward again as the loud sound of Bartholomew's snoring once again filled her ears. Unnoticed by her, a light blue glow on her neck emanating from under her collar faded out. "I need to be more careful. My anger has never boiled over like that before." she thought as she turned to face the portrait of the black lion on the wall. That was something she would have to sort out later. For now she had a task to complete, and she would have to focus to complete it."
