I know many a beautiful girl with spiderwebs lacing their arms. They know the secret - that physical pain can numb emotional pain, that you can commit almost-suicide, that if you hurt on the inside it should damn well show on the outside.
I know the furry community holds a lot of depression and other mental illness. This community is full of broken people - benchwarmers and bedwetters, poets and loserkids and faggots. Castaways and cutouts.
I too am familiar with self-harm. I own too many bracelets and arm warmers for it to be a coincidence. I've spent a lot of time trying to deny I felt anything at all, and self-injuring made it much easier to believe my own lie. But I found help, and if you struggle with self-injurious behavior, I hope you will too - because yes, there is a place where razor and wrist aren’t magnetic.
Yes, there is a way to step back from the ledge.
Yes, the darkness can be banished or harnessed or tamed.
Yes, a person in pain can become a magician and pull a new life out of a hat. Strings of colors from the sleeve. Release the doves. Flourish and bow and know you’ve beaten the odds.
