I decided to try a different layer mode to add light this time. I usually use 'glow' or 'luminosity' but 'overlay' gave the effect I was searching for so long! I can finally add some light effects on light colored fur with this (as long as it isn't super close to white, at least). Also toying way more with transparency for shadows. Should have done this ages ago.
There's some weird My Little Pony vibe here although I didn't use a single MLP reference. The legs and feet are too simple detailed, maybe it's that.
