It sounds stupid but its how things were before, a quick search on google gives these links: https://sports.stackexchange.com/qu.....5-30-40-why-40 and https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-h.....scoring-system
Basically a clock used to be used, and a clock would have 60/0 15 30 45 instead of 0/4 1 2 3 but in tennis since you need to be 2 ahead to win they would stop at 40 and increment by 10 until 60. And love is really l'ouef in French meaning egg which looks like 0 I guess?
really the take away is its how things were, so why over complicate by changing things. Like how in the US we use the imperial system, while most everywhere else uses the metric. It works fine why go through the hassle of changing everything. Sure it might make more sense to use 0 1 2 3 4 in tennis, but the system works how it is, why change things unnecessarily. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to change, it could be changed, but what would be the point? It's simple enough to understand. Besides changing the numbers to what would seem more reasonable now? What would be gained?
Edit: It's like if the US tried to change to metric, it would be unnecessary and cause confusion. To everyone that it matters, the imperial system is understood, but to those who use metric normally, imperial seems illogical, like how you don't get tennis.
