Okay, here's a couple quick and dirty tips. I ink my picture first. Make sure you ink with something that is waterproof or your watercolours will make it run. I use rapidogrpah ink for vellum (it repels the watercolour) and ink with a 0 brush. Inking with a brush takes time and practise but the results are linework that is not uniform in size and is more pleasing to the eye. You might want to use Micron or other waterproof pens when starting out.
I use white taklon brushes in various sizes. Starting with the largest brushes I wash in large areas of colour. As I work more and more detail in I use smaller brushes till I'm using little tiny brushes for fur detail. With illustration board you can pick up colour that has gone over the lines by using a clean brush and clean water. You brush over the area toward the direction of the rest of the colour, then carefully blot up with a kleenex.
I work background to foreground. How's that? If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I'm always willing to give advise or tips:)

Actually, you've helped me tons. I'll have to get better pens tomorrow before I start, but that always gives me time to do a simple sketch of what I want tonight.
Any idea how you can erase pencil on an illustration board? I've never been able to.
Right now I'm planning to do a mixed piece with watercolors, colored pencils, and acrylics. However I've never had the joys of experiencing watercolors before. So learning anything about them is pretty important (I'll probably do a watercolor only piece before attempting a mixed media one.) But don't get me wrong, in the past I've simply used watered down acrylics. So I'm sure watercolors will be Easier than that XP

Assuming you're using cold press illustration board, most erasers should work just fine. I use white erasers and a good amount of elbow grease. Illustration board is tough so it can take a bit of scrubbing. You might find kneaded erasers do a better job.
Watercolour is a great base for mixed media but be sure to put it down first. The wax in coloured pencil will repel the watercolour and acrylic will take coloured pencil on top but not watercolour.
Good luck with your planned peice!
