The mind suffers because the mind is not meditative
Self awareness is the awareness that one is not the mind. The attachment to the mind is what creates suffering. A child is born into suffering. Every child screams and cries when it is born. The attachment to the mind is painful. But later, when the inner child becomes more self aware, it can learn to not be attached to the mind. The true self, the soul, always lives unattachedly in the present moment and one just thinks that one is not living unattachedly in the present moment because of the false self, the conditioned mind that one has created in society. The mind takes life seriously, and the more one lives from the mind, the more one lives in tension. The more one lives from the soul, the more one is relaxed. As children, we do not know so much how to watch our own minds. But when we become more conscious about ourselves, we can learn to overcome our inner cild by living in self awareness. Self awareness is self love and it means to nourish and take care of our consciousness. What we love, we nourish and take care about. We are consciousness, and to love consciousness without conditions is not only the highest form of love, but it is also the language of our unconditioned true self, the soul. Self awareness makes us less judgemental, less serious and more self loving and it also makes us more aware of the mysteries of the universe we live in, and how we can transform the universe by transforming our consciousness, because the mind only sees the surface of things. To not be attached to the mind means to live in peace of mind. One who lives in peace of mind never gets upset. One is always at peace. A simple example of what peace of mind means: When it upsets you when someone tells you that god doesn't exist, you are not living in inner peace. When it upsets you when someone tells you that god does exist, you are not living in inner peace either. There is no desire to think about such things. The moment one thinks about the story of another, it becomes one's own story. The desire to think only exists in the state of time which is created by the dualistic mind. The most free state of being is to not identify with any thought that appears inside of one's consciousness.
