Two of the more formidable rebels, Vlad and Shaka on a covert operation deep in regime territory. As the rebels' primary objective is to win the hearts and minds of the common people, rules of engagement for the pair discourage the wanton slaughter of hapless conscripts unless absolutely necessary. Fortunately for this dhole, he never saw the black jaguar creeping up on him so he'll just wake up in a few hours with a thumping headache rather than a couple of 9mm's in his chest.
I wanted to finish up a group picture rather than just some posed picture of one character, so I finished up this old sketch I did for
steinwill. I'm pretty damn pleased with how it came out and I think it represents a couple of steps forward in my linearting in particular.
Anyhow, as always, comments and critique are appreciated.

Wow, that shading looks incredible. Especially on Shaka; those highlights on the face and the cheeks really make it look realistic.
I also love how the bits behind the goggles are just a little bit lighter and blurred. And do I spot light rays there in the background?
That is some amazing detail you put in there, my friend.
I am a bit curious about the background, particularly the leaves. If you don't mind sharing your secret: Did you use a shaped brush or some texture or something? Or did you really draw all those shapes by hand?
However you did it - it looks stunning, especially in the trees. Great piece of art.
Also: Do I spot a reference to that Toy Story meme here? LOL

Thanks very much! Highlights are my favourite part of a drawing, the brighter the better, especially if there's some colour. Shaka's spots would be a close second on things I like to draw. xD
Glad you like the background and yes, I do have a rather extensive collection of foliage brushes from all over the place. Backgrounds are something I feel are a bit out of phase with my understanding of artwork because there is simply more detail than you can ever hope to draw. You have to create the illusion of meaningful detail rather than actually drawing it all and that doesn't really sit well with me. I just kinda go hard with the texture brushes and hope for the best.
Thanks again and yeap, it is certainly a bit of a nod to that meme! :D
