The next step, was to join the spine pieces together, First each end was drilled with a 1.0mm drill bit, spaced slightly different in an alternating fashion - what this means is the tail can curl very easily in one way, but along the other axis it's movement is limited - this was done for the purpose of allowing the tail to have great side to side articulation, but limited up and down movement.
The pieces of wire, is homage to my old friend, wolftail - who pioneered the use of paperclips in his tail and fursuit construction XD The things he could do with a box of paperclips and some solder were baffling and because of that I thought it only fitting to use a similar technique. each spine piece, as it gets larger, also gets a larger set of articulating support structure, to the point that they were getting so long additional support was required, this meant soldering in extra pieces between similarly moving wires and doubling them up to give better overall strength.
The wires also serve as axles for movement 90 degrees to their area of influence, making them serve a dual purpose, which in one respect is good, but because of that 90 degree offset, makes movement slightly more difficult.
Considering however this is all prototyping, and a first trial run, I suspect a better method will be figured out eventually.
