Ezekiel rummaged in the mirror cabinet for his toothpaste, before finally retrieving it and shutting the cabinet door. He looks at himself in the mirror, a weird feeling of nostalgia and vague forgetfulness washing over him. February 4th... he did not feel like he was twenty-one, nor did he feel like anything had changed at all. He was still himself, still the same guy going to college and getting his degree. Still the same hard worker at his part-time job. Why did he feel so weird, then? He releases some of the paste from the tube onto his toothbrush and lathers his teeth in it, getting at all the key areas, before finishing and rinsing his spittle and brush in the warm water. As he puts the items away, an arm wraps around his shoulder.
"Hey, sweetie, happy birthday!" It was Alexander, his boyfriend. Truth be told, not that many people knew he and Alex shared the same birthday. It just worked out like that, and sometimes the two would joke about how it was destined for them to meet in such a way. Alex was twenty-two, and he had been waiting for Zeke to finish so that they could spend the day together.
"Hey, sorry, I'm just about done. Just one more thing." Ezekiel reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, turning on the camera application.
"What are you doing?" Alexander asked. He gave a puzzled look as Ezekiel changed the camera's functions to face the fox and shark. "Oh, you're taking a picture?"
"Of course. Why wouldn't I? Today's a special day for us both." Ezekiel smiled happily. Yeah, there was that feeling he was used to. That elated sense of accomplishment coursing through him. And as he snapped the picture, he thanked his lucky stars that Alex was there to celebrate with him.
