FA doesn't like funky characters in raw text files. You CAN save files as UTF-8 and preserve accented and special characters, but don't save it as UNICODE, and make sure that the file looks correct in a basic Notepad-like word processor--don't trust fancy Office-like apps to render properly in raw text.
