The Zeta Class Star Destroyer was most commonly seen along trade routes with known smuggling issues. The Zeta was always accompanied by an interdiction vessel and several support craft (ex. Dreadnought Heavy Cruiser, Strike Class Cruiser, Ton Falk Escort Carrier, or Victory I Star Destroyers) and never strayed away from the vessels. The Zeta Class Star Destroyer also was disliked by Grand Moff Tarkin who thought it focused too heavily on carrying and capture instead of intimidation and raw destructive capability, and he used his clout to ensure that the star destroyer was only used in outer rim patrol tasks, and never near his home world of Eriadu, much to the displeasure of KDY. After Grand Moff Tarkin's death at the Battle of Yavin, the Zeta Class Star Destroyer saw its range of operation expanded throughout Imperial held space. The Imperial warlord Zsinj had at least three Zeta Class Star Destroyers at his disposal. By the time of the Sith-Imperial War, only a small handful of Zeta still existed in operation, most of which stayed loyal to the Fel Empire rather than join the forces of Darth Krayt.
