Taking a break from the transformation for a bit to see the other side of the story.
The mother is fully aware of what her son is going through, having personally given Adomm the go-ahead to "work her magic", as it were. And, as you can see, she has a key to the room, so simply locking the door would do nothing to deter her entry.
But, opening that door... there's a metaphor to opening doors, I've found. To open a door is to accept change. To allow yourself to be rid of your current surroundings, as familiar and comfortable as they are, to accept a whole new experience. Some people are afraid of that. They do not want to leave their comfortable, familiar room.
That's one reason I respect Adomm's craft so much. While she changes her canvas' body, she does nothing to change their minds. They are thrust through a metaphorical door in which they are forced to change. Either accept it, or reject it; a choice that is battered by confusion. They had been blindfolded and thrown through the door rather than choosing to open it, peer through, and step inside themselves.
So, a word of advice. Events in life will happen, and they may invoke some Adomm-level changes on you. When that happens: don't be careful. Be ready.
... next panel, though, we're going back into the transformation. Look forward to it.
