After several days of working on the project on and off, Vale still wasn’t sure why the doll had behaved as it had. All she could come up with was some sort of interference in the resonance, distorting the correlation in the link between her and the doll. A few adjustments would strengthen the link and, she hoped, give a more accurate correlation and mimicry between the two.
It took some time, but she managed to make a thread replacement from specially harvested and treated strips of hide. It had been a less than pleasant process to draw from her body like that, and then give it the strength and thinness needed to work akin to thread, but it was a paltry sacrifice in her mind to pursue her research into magic.
As she was nearing completion to rethreading the doll, she felt something just a little…off. She wasn’t quite sure what it was, but something about her just felt different. She dismissed the feeling with a nod, believing it to be the enchantment taking the effect, the closer bonding of the resonate linkage causing phantom sensations. Once the link was firmly established and the enchantment settled, it would go away.
But it didn’t. If anything, the odd sensations got stronger, and she quickly realized, more widespread.
Strange, there shouldn’t be a spreading feeling…
The answer became readily apparent as she turned around to isolate the feeling of the sensation. To her shock, her entire lower body no longer looked normal, but composed of…fabric. A combination of alarm and relief went through her as her body continued to be under her control, twitching in her surprise at her body’s alteration, retaining both motor function and feeling. The sensation of feeling, however, felt strangely artificial, having little other way to phrase it. The change continued at alarming speed up her torso, and even where her body had not yet been altered, she could now more acutely feel the link of the enchantment working into her body.
A few moments later, there was nothing flesh and blood about her, her body now, for all intents and purposes, and animate doll of herself. She took stock that, indeed, she was still otherwise herself and that she had otherwise came to no harm. Far as she could tell, it was indeed the case, and she chose to overlook the sigh she gave as she affirmed that her magic had not gone so far as to be her end. Calmed by that, she was able to give due agitation to the cause of her condition, the still inanimate doll of herself in her hand.
It would seem I made the correlation resonance a little…too strong.
Her mind roiling lightly at this unseemly occurrence, she knew she was going to loose a lot of time in profitable researching working out how to safely undo and reverse this completely unintended result. With a shake of her head, she set to work.
