After sustaining lethal damage in a fight against one of the major arch-nemeses of his time, Riptide placed himself in stasis, awaiting a future where medical technology could heal him of his wounds. He slumbered deep underneath the city he had once protected, slowly forgotten, like King Arthur in mythical Avalon. Revived in the near distant future, lost and disoriented by the passage of the years, he tries to piece together exactly what happened while he was gone. He soon realizes that he is needed now more than ever and so he plots his eventual return to the streets. He will prove to the world that in some small corner of this multi-verse, in some untamed place he calls home, there are still good men willing to take on the peril and the burden of being a hero.
Or so, at least, the story goes. Few know what happened the night Riptide awoke and what state his body was in, records destroyed by the gradual degradation of the city, those he knew long gone as the world moved on. Was it really new medical technology that brought life back to his body or was it something more?
Perhaps his body never left its steel coffin and his mind simply moved from one metal husk to another. Such things are not unheard of in this time, but still looked upon with a mixture of distrust and fear. Perhaps Riptide has been diligent in concealing this secret until now, when outnumbered and outgunned - in a fight he should lose by all regards. But not when there's something more than just flesh and bone in the line of duty...
