I had this idea for a superhero. The world they would've been in would've been something like Watchmen, to where it was a world without superheroes with superheroes kinda thing, and the Boxer would've been the only one at first or something. Anyway, there was this old god from an ancient religion that needs belief to survive. So inspired by comic books (and wanting to re-implement its moral code to combat what it perceives as "moral degradation"), it, with its limited power, possesses and slowly influences people to take up a life of superheroism. And each of these people keep dying.

However, as faith and trust in these heroes grow throughout the populace, the god becomes more and more powerful, granting their possessee more and more abilities akin to their old godlike form. "The Boxer" is a bit of an artifact title for the character, since it was given to a person who didn't have powers at this point. And yes, this moniker is a reference to the Simon and Garfunkel song of the same name (one of the absolute best S&G songs, I should add), and no, it doesn't really fit outside from the part at the end of the lyrics about the fighter getting up again and again despite being brutalized and wanting to leave.

In the end, I really didn't end up doing anything with the character, but I'm still somewhat interested in the concept of it. Maybe I'll do something with it at some point, who knows?
