So I thought I'd post this lil 3-pager about a recent day in my life. Spread over 3 days. There's probably some sort of gag in that, if I could think of one.

If he's sleepy or lethargic, it's not sleep apnea. It's a result of dangerously high blood glucose levels. If he fails to heed the warning signs, he risks falling into a diabetic coma or worse.
Is he drinking a lot and eating a lot (more than usual)? Ask him how he'd like to have his kidneys stop working, or if the idea of going blind overnight sounds like fun. The longer he waits to address this problem, the less likely he is to continue living, quite simply.
Tell him I said to quit fucking around. Seriously, man

I have diabetes and sleep apnea. Fatigue can be caused by diabetes, but afternoon drowsies are frequently a symptom of sleep apnea. So is heavy snoring, and if the snoring is interrupted it's a red flag.
Neither are fun, and both can be life-threatening. Don't know if you want to try to pay for a sleep study, though, they tend to run about $1500.
As to the refusal, I can understand it. I was in denial for a long time on my apnea and fought the idea of a CPAP tooth and nail for years. (I've been using it for several years now and won't attempt to sleep without it any more, the difference is that profound.) The diabetes wasn't really that big a surprise, it runs in the family. It's still unpleasant.

re bug bites-- could be bedbugs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedbug
Nearly impossible to get rid of the suckers-- cleaning and vacumning won't help because they hide in cracks and behind wall outlets. You do so much traveling you could have easily gotten some unwelcome hitchikers in your luggage.
Secondary possibility is a 'kissing bug': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kissing_bug although I'm not sure how common or active they are this time of year.
If you don't mind the smell, putting some bug repellant on before going to bed might help.

If its fleas, I hear there's a powder you can put on your bed to kill them. It's basically fine silicate shards. They land in it and breathe it in and the shards just tear up all their gills. Just be sure to clean it off your bed before you sleep on it, though. Especially if you have pets.
they're making quite a comeback now exterminators have switched to species-specific pesticides. The bedbugs have spent the last 40 years on chicken farms, acquiring pesticide resistance
