Theses are basically literary criticism texts on reality-as-fiction, examining and exploring ideas in reality and re-contextualizing them with exciting hypotheses. At the end of each thesis is a mnuemonic device that summarizes the thought process of the thesis as a whole. By memorizing the thesis intimately, you can speak the trigger phrase to recall its memory into your soul, enforcing the reality of the critique onto the world for a short moment.

It's actually pretty hard to do, because to make it work, you have to write a very exacting, peer-reviewed thesis, refining your ideas and exploring your concept fully. If you can't justify your concept--for example, here, that fire is just waiting to happen anywhere--then the spell won't work. For the caster, you have to fully understand the spell, too. It's not enough to have just read it, you have to understand it well enough you could explain it in full without referencing it.

For a lot of knicknacks, that's all just FAR too much work, when instead you can play or rearrange your body to new exciting shapes. Sandwich is committed enough that she's one of the few knicknacks that's managed to learn powers beyond what she was made with. You go, buddy!
