Everything is better in a fursuit. EVEN YOUR SHITTY JOB!!!!
I think I might dress like this at a con and give out welfare check or something.

Hey, I'm a postal worker (since 86; sorting mail at night). Would love to do so in a fursuit though only my co-workers would see me, not the general public. Wouldn't it be fun if, say, windows clerks at post offices donned fursuits? Maybe on Halloween or just before Christmas or something!
It's fun when fursuiters (am not one, maybe someday) go out in public. One year at Anthrocon in Philly we had a couple fursuiters among us at the yearly Buca di Beppo get-together and a family went up to us--"pardon me, but my son loves these
costumes! Can we take a picture with you?" We have continued the Buca tradition to this day, these days over at the Pittsburgh/Station Square location (we walk to it,
about a mile away)

Oh jeez, another furry postal worker???? Doesn't this job suck ass??
I was thinking it would be awesome to fursuit on halloween at work, but the vision in this thing is so limited, there's no way I could see the mail, and there's no way a clerk or sorter could do it either.
I've already gone out in public with this on a few times, one was at a halloween show my band played, It was super fun to dance in. Another time my friend wore the suit and I walked him around on a leash and talked to him like he was my dog, we got some interesting reactions. In retrospect, we are nuts.

Well the money and benefits aren't bad but we're overworked these days at my sorting facility (6 pm -2:30 am, nice hours, and I soon may shift to a 9 pm start).
People taking early retirement and not being replaced (attrition) so we have more mail to sort (per person) and they recently moved us to a part of the building where the pulldown is tough to do.
Glad you enjoyed those fursuit times! I've enjoyed seeing the fursuiters at Anthrocon incl. the fursuit parade.
I agree, it would be impossible to sort in a suit--only wish I could be a real raccoon or fox (and for the record my two roomies at AC are squirrels and very nice)

That's the same thing that's happening with carriers, early retirements and no replacements, instead they just made all the routes longer and "pivoting" time away. (basically extra work with no pay based on computer data) I probably have a way more negative outlook on it than you do since I have so much longer until retirement, which I already know I'll never make it to.
And yes, Scooter and Cachette are both awesome!

Great you feel that way about Scooter & Cachette etc!
And yes, not the most rosy of outlooks for USPS...but I'm sticking it out. Even if I were eligible for VERA (Voluntary Early Retirement Act?) I'd probably say no. Need money, and if I did retire, what kind of job would I wind up with to tide myself over,
if ANY job were around?

Well hopefully you've been putting money into the thrift savings plan and specifically into the safe "g" account, eh? You've probably got about 8 years left right? I don't think "stick it out" is an option for me, even though that's what everyone keeps telling me, but they can suck it.
Both of you should say hi to my friend
athenisis. She's a postal worker too. :)

But what about individual changes? Does DOISS actually read the names? Or does it flag the address where the change is or something?? I work in an urban area, so sometimes there's like 10 individual changes for one address. I've noticed the human readable code has been getting crappier, it used to be a yellow sticker but I've been seeing a lot of just the address and zip code sprayed on the bottom of the mail.
There are two groups in my office, there's a bunch of guys who come back on time and clock out on time no matter WHAT, and as soon as they clock out there's a group of all the people with the longer more difficult routes that come back right before 5. (it's a big deal at our office if you come back after 5, you get written up or something) I've come back after 5 a bunch of times because a) they readjusted the routes so now they are all super long and b) I now don't know the routes anymore since they all changed, and also c) I don't care about getting written up and if i have 30 years left I'm not busting through some long-ass route to do a free half hour pivot somewhere else. But wow, 7! I don't think I've ever come back that late!

Good question for my boss, who I will see Wed. (I'm on change of schedule so I can go to CT to get a car. ) I just got screwed over a bit, the Tour 1 boss didn't schedule an expeditor to come in at 2100, so I had to stay on OT.
We have six open city routes due to retirements and a hiring freeze. Yippie!
