Mmmm it's just an overlay of my sketch onto a stock paper background then spattering with some random brushes. ^^; nothing too special. Sometimes I can tweak it to this state without using the paper stock but that mostly depends on how much I smudged up the original sketch. Completely clean paper doesn't make for a good parchment effect, haha.

Ah. That sounds rather easy, actually. XD

I thought about finding some pictures of parchment and drawing on it digitally. . . I'll see what I can do and tell you how it ends up. :3

Reminds me somewhat of the Landstriders from The Dark Crystal, though a bit less.. grasshoppery.. of course. XD Wish I could afford these figurines. ;p

For some reason McGee's Alice comes to mind too, but I'm not entirely sure why. Oo Possibly just for the atmosphere.

And as cool as the Landstriders are, XD Looking back now, DAMN they're creepy lookin. XD I guess it just never crossed my mind watching it when I was younger. I need to watch it again. XD

Also, those sword legged ones, they must have a hell of a time walking on soft or deep cracked ground. ;p I like that the body shape, tail, fur, horn, etc changes slightly with each one. ^..^

Are they used for transportation, or are those sharp looking feet used to attack adventurers?

While they are too fragile in body for use as transportation, they will attack when provoked, or to defend themselves; and those feet are used as weapons, in that case.
