A gorgeously painted BF-109G2, reg.10639, at RAF Cosford air museum. Kinda sad story at how this particular plane lost its wings.
For the longest time this exact plane was considered the only airworthy example of a tropical G2 until in 1997 when it flipped on landing due to an engine malfunction. Atleast they were able to restore it to a static condition and place it back on display.

It's an incredible museum, ain't it?!
I was there taking these shots last May when I was spending the weekend up at Telford.
I would love to have permission to go take photos in the restoration hangar one day. I'm a strong believer that we should do what we can to show off and preserve our aviation history.

That is a sad story, as evil as the Nazi regime was, German engineering has produced some amazing machines over time.
And yes, I'm a proud Brit and I have NO qualms about praising someone who was our enemy at the time when they are deserving of that praise. Failure to respect the strengths of an enemy or a friend can only lead to disaster. Churchill knew that and made that point far more eloquently than I ever could.
Ok, apologise, I'll just... take my soap box and sneak out the side door.
