Shadow comes from a Military family his father being a Fighter Pilot and his mother a soldier. When he had graduated school his father had him be enrolled into a secret military program at age 18, so that he could be to be trained in using highly sophisticated secret aircraft the government was designing.

The reason they picked Shadow and several other's for the training was in fear of a neighboring countries increase in power, so they wanted to increase their military might by training younger pilots to fly these new planes. Shadow proved himself on the field to be a very successful fighter pilot, but due to an incident at the military base that Shadow was stationed at he, was dishonorably discharged, now know longer apart of the program that he felt proud to be a part of, he also been seemly been abandoned by his family for his disgrace. Hence he now works for Stella at her workshop, though he feels like a fish-out of water now that he is no longer working for the military, but he's slowly getting use to civilian life and is being the best test pilot for Stella's new vehicles and mecha's she's designing
