Manufactured on June 13, 1987, the Panasonic T325 was the oldest and possibly rarest piece of electronic office equipment in my collection. I say it was rare because when I got it, the manual wasn't included, and I'm unable to find it anywhere online, so the typewriter was a continuous learning experience. When I first got it, the carriage had a tendency to seize up every time it went past the halfway point. This was easily solved by spraying white lithium grease on the carriage rail, and manually but gently moving the carriage up and down the rail.
Its main selling point is the Accu-Spell spelling error detection feature, which helps you to correct spelling errors before you hit Return and the entered text gets printed. It also has other unique features like automatic text centering, auto columns, bold and underline, and computer memory storage that allows you to print complete documents at the touch of three buttons. On the bottom of the unit, there is a removable door that allows for quick and easy font wheel installation/removal.
There appears to be a DB-9 connector on the side, which I had originally thought was for RS-232 communications, but I could never get it to work with the devices I tried connecting it to. Maybe it's really a port to connect to an optional external monitor to turn the unit into a word processor, but again, since the manual is so hard to find, I can't confirm it. Nevertheless, the T325 was pretty rad for a typewriter made in 1987.
On February 12, 2021, the Panasonic T325 typewriter is no longer functional. Several spokes on the cup-wheel have broken free during this month's testing, rendering the typewriter completely unusable. Since replacement cup-wheels are rare and overly expensive, I plan on harvesting the parts that I want from it, and recycling the rest.
