Name: Abyss
Other Names: Wrath, Void, Entropy, Forever, Thanasis, Mr. Black, Smiler...many more
Physical description: Big. Round. Fat. Closest in body type would be Enoch, from OFF, or Kingpin from Spiderverse. Easily towers over everyone else in the room. Completely black skin, a black and white suit - black jacket, black pants, black dress shoes, black tie, white shirt and spats on the shoes. Hard to tell where the clothes begin and the body end, the only lines of definition are the shirt shown through the open button of the jacket, the cuffs of the shirt slipping out under the cuffs of the jacker, and the spats. He looks kind of like someone cut a him-shaped hole out of the universe. Sometimes, his body can appear to be a portal to other places and worlds - look close enough, and you can see the universe inside him. Large white sclera, with small, beady black eyes inside, always grinning a wide, Cheshire Cat-style grin. His expression never changes the slighest bit, no matter his emotional state, like it's painted on.
Personality: Somewhat enigmatic and guarded. Doesn't give much about himself away. He never gives his name, always happy to go with whatever the people around him call him, hence why he has so many different names. During quiet private moments, he can be surprisingly open about himself, and perceptive about others, yet remains somewhat mysterious in spite of this. Has a kind of warped view of the world. He seems to be treating everything like a game he's playing - a game he's happy to win or lose. This is not to say he completely lacks empathy - he can still care for the people around him, but ultimately he seems to act like none of it really matters in the grand scheme.
Story: It's hard to really define what Abyss is - he just seems to be an immutable fact of the universe, a force of nature that can't really be stopped. Abyss would love to know more than anyone else what he is and why he exists, but he's long given up on getting answers. He just is, and he's come to terms with it. He popped into existence one day, and he's never stopped existing, not even when killed. If he dies, he seems to simply appear somewhere else in the universe and keep on going. He seems to have a bevy of what some would call god-like powers, but he forgets he even has them half the time. It's like someone gave him the powers of a god, but then forgot the omniscience part. He has too many memories that he simply can't keep them in his mind, and every time he dies, he sloughs off the memories of the previous life and starts anew. His role in each turn of his life changes frequently. He can be villainous, or heroic, or a catalyst of chaos. Whatever dictates what he turns out to be in each "life" seems to be random - at least, it is to him. If he understood how he kept coming back, it would make more sense.
The truth of his eternal resurrection is that he does not simply come back into being whenever he dies - he inadvertantly takes over the body of someone else in the universe, usually as far away as possible from where he previously died. What decides exactly who he takes control of is unclear, but it tends to be people who are lonely in some manner. Whoever he has taken control of has some sort of influence over the kind of person he turns out to be in that given life - if they are kind, he will be kind, if they are cruel, he will be cruel. Ultimately, however, his view on the universe remains largely the same. Whatever adventure he gets swept up in (and he tends to end up in a lot of them through some force of inevitability - it's the only way he can die and start again, after all), it's mostly a bit of fun for him. It doesn't really matter to him how other people see him, whether they like him or hate him, because in the end, he will outlast them all - and then forget them, as whoever he was will eventually be forgotten by the sands of time, and himself.
