ANTHRO XXI
The holographic supercomputer within our lab acted as the major hub for the data we’ve collected in collaboration for the EPTC, as well as containing files and contact information for all staff members and associates, including partnerships with other affiliates.
Chief Executive Darius was not hard to find in the system, his contact information was one of the very first on the staff list for the EPTC with a brief description of his status, biography and stance within the company.
However, it only provided the proper codes that I must enter into my PES system in order to contact him. Little did I know, he had set his PES system to receive private calls a feature I was unaware of; this line of communication was peer to peer, and through direct contact via our PES system which was in tune to our own nervous system – our conversation was held private, and unknown to me completely oblivious to others around me. This setting was only available for senior members of the EPTC to prevent any accidental leakage of important information.
With the PES system in a link to our nervous system, it was able to tap into our brain in a way I had never experienced. It was if I was channelled in an alternate universe where my communication was limited to my mind; I thought it, and it went through. I have heard of telepathic communication before in my time on earth 300 years ago, but never before had I ever thought I’d see the day when I would be actively engaging in the means.
It worked by the PES tapping into our thoughts and ideas and sending the information to the receiver which was sent directly from their PES system back into theirs. The signals of the transfer of information stimulated the sensitive nerve endings in our eardrums so that we could actively ‘hear’ the words being transferred, and with it the tone and nature as if the spoke the words by tongue. But it was all in our minds where nobody else could listen in. Without moving my lips to speak, I was able to communicate with Chief Executive Darius.
‘Chief Executive Darius of the EPTC here, how may I assist you?’ his words rung in my ears, a deep resonating tone, I looked down at my own wristband where my PES system rested, but it showed no face, only the name of who I was contacting and their position. Damn! I wanted to meet him in person, to see him face to face about this issue…I guess this will have to do…
‘My name is Ray Donovan, Assistant Scientist and Earth History extraordinaire aboard the ANTHRO, I have an issue I would like to discuss with you concerning collusion between our ship and another’s authority about subjects within our possession and the transfer of jurisdiction…’ I tried to remain vigilant and professional in my thoughtful word choice.
‘The EPTC guidelines concerning samples and specimens ascertained by ships conclude that there must be a cooperation of research and information by all ships and parties involved in the study of said specimens or samples. Thereby, each ship is allotted time to research and study the specimens until a senior member dictates their possession of the specimen is satisfied and therefore may be transferred to a ship who requests it. In other words, the specimen is to be examined alternately between ships; each one given the opportunity to conduct their own research as it pertains to their individual mission all the while sharing and working in conjunction with one another the information each ship ascertains…’ His voice came firmly in reply.
‘So…by us logging that we’ve concluded our research on the sample in question and must transfer the specimen to another ship who requests it, we are unable to re-possess the sample at a future date or shortly after, even though once we’ve transferred possession, we realized we came to a false conclusion?’ I asked concerned; by terminating our research, did Abigale truly make it to where we cannot re-ascertain another chance for further study?
‘A false conclusion? Tells me that either your research team lacks communication with your senior member, or they made a false judgement. Something that should be investigated internally, if you feel it is a concern be sure to contact your C/O – your captain for resolution for the issue. As it pertains to the false conclusion and the specimen in question, your team could simply resubmit a request to the recipient ship for re-acquisition, however, once they’ve been granted pardon for full possession of the specimen, do not expect their full compliance – that issue must be handled between the two ship’s captains and their teams accordingly, and nothing that concerns me unless the captains have an underlying issue.’ His voice came mockingly, making it appear I was way above my head in this issue.
‘But sir, the ship the specimen is now in possession of is the Primrose, who wishes to cultivate the plant specimen ascertained from Earth, by doing so there’s no opportunity for us to repossess the plant without jeopardizing its health and safety.’ I testified, but before I could say more his voice cut into my head like a hot knife through butter…
‘The specimen it seems was put at enough risk to jeopardize its health in safety hefted out of the soils with which it grew to be put in the lab aboard ANTHRO; the time has come now for the plant to be reinstituted in the conditions prior to its extraction to be certain its survival. The ANTHRO has concluded its research and study of the plant as seen by the senior member of your team, if your team wishes to repossess the plant, it must send a request ticket to the Primrose, if issues arise, you must consult your Captain. That is all, this conversation is concluded…’
With that final message received in my ears, the audible cue of the PES rang out, signalling that the conversation was indeed terminated…
“BASTARD!” I vehemently spat with a snarl upon my muzzle.

Next instalment in the
Thursday_Prompt an instalment of ANTHRO, Chapter 21! This weeks prompt was the keyword "Alternate" provided to us by the Thursday-Prompt and of which this story was inspired!
It follows up on the previous issue as outlined in the previous story, so here's a follow up where Ray, a hybrid man-wolf contacts the CEO of the EPTC only to be left annoyed and disappointed in the result of an underlying issue. What do you expect Ray? You should have listened to Abigale as she IS your senior team leader! She knows more about the EPTC than you, and spoke with the Captain instead of trying to go over their heads! tsk tsk tsk!
Haha this was a fun little story and I hope you all get a kick out of it as well! until next time I hope you all have a great weekend!

Thanks so much, Kiyo! It's rather fun exploring new technologies and hypothetical advances of the future. I had mentioned the PES system before in previous instalments, but this was the first time I actually worked out this new 'feature', and I say I'm rather proud of myself for it ^^
Ya that is really cool. In one of my stories (I'm currently working on), the engineers have a neural port that allows them to interface with the ship's systems. Still not worked out 100%, but it is very interesting to see other people's (yours) perspective on the advanced communications used in sci-fi.
Oh awesome! Now you got me intrigued, I would definitely like to see how you implement the concept as well in your own work. This is what I love about writing, it’s always a neat and fun challenge to ones creativity and really sets a mood and scene for the readers as well as inspiration.
If you ever need help or have questions feel free to ask, between the two of us I’m sure we can brainstorm ideas for your portion ^^ Good luck!
