~12" x 16". ink, watercolor, pencil. 2006.
This is sort of related to my recent "Venger" upload.
In 2006, I was experimenting with using ink jet printers on watercolor paper,
and then finishing the digital print-outs by hand using watercolor paints, etc.
I made a couple images in this way.
1. Drawn and inked linework. Black and white, scanned in at high rez.
2. Photoshopped the lines into color. Printed out on sturdy watercolor paper at 10% tone and let dry.
3. Carefully painted into it. The ink jet colors -will bleed- and run on you if you work too wet, but if you plan for it and have them already tinted to match what's going on, then it's not a big deal.
In this case, I ended up restating much of the linework anyway, but it was worth the experiment. You can see how i used this technique to plan out the henna patterning on her body.
