December 22nd, 2017.
It's just after midnight as I speed towards Rennsalear, Indiana after receiving word of a major train derailment on the CSX Monon Sub. Upon getting off at Indiana 114, I pass the fire station and see that what I thought was a joke isn't, the department is cleared out. Upon entering town, I can see numerous police departments, including county, state, and railroad. I head over to my friends house, get out of my truck, look south along the tracks to see the view in this photo. I'm awestruck, as I've never seen a derailment before, let aloneless than 500 feet from my friends house which is up against the tracks. It's like these large hunks of metal were thrown like toys. Eventually I'm kicked out of the area while looking for my friend due to a minor evacuation order(had I known I would have used my haz mat skills I learned during my time as a groundman). In the end, about 10 cars or so came off due to a broken wheel, I found my friend, and no major damage was done to anyones property, nor was anyone hurt.

The reason for the evacuation order: a car marked flammable 1267 ana crude oil, which was actually an empty residual tank car.
