Time for the big finish... literally.
After applying two coats of Rustolium matte finish and allowing it to dry overnight I applied a layer of a varnish that claims to be matte but as I had learned in an earlier project, dries with a heavy shine and wet look. I decided to layer it on pretty thick so it would look like this thing was covered in a layer of mucus and left the brush strokes kind of heavy so it would form small streams over the surface.
And just like that, it's done. Most of my materials with the exception of the sand brown Citadel paint and the ballast were purchased either at a dollar store or Wal Mart including brushes, toothpicks, sealer, varnish, glue and Styrofoam plates that were used as palates for mixing paints.
I hope this little step by step tutorial inspires some of you to do some of your own painting and please link the projects to me, I'd love to see them.
