A retired Navy officer, Elric Banner had fallen into a life of drudgery once his service had come to an end. Even though his experiance had allowed him to net a decent office job, he felt he was slowly dying inside from the sheer monotony of the work he had. It didn't help that he was passed over for promotions multiple times due to office politics and his superiors in general hating him. He put up with it for three years before he finally snapped, and decided he would return to the high seas where he had felt most alive.

But instead of just becoming a fisherman or career diver, he got himself back into shape over time, putting up with his job by motivating himself with the idea of becoming a pirate in this modern era. It wasn't too hard to find some like-minded people around the docks, and a lucky break came in the form of an experimental stealth-assault submarine coming to bearth close by before she made a circumnavigation of the planet to test her longevity. Emboldened, Elric quit his job and, once he figured the sub was due to set sail, lead a surprise raid on the vessel and managed to get away, having used a massive distraction in the form of a nearby fire to reduce the number of guards.

With his rechristened Iron Queen, he and his crew began their successful raids on the Atlantic and Gulf shipping lanes, the orca renaming himself Electric Blue after a techno-magic trident he obtained from the Independent Kingdom of Denmark.
