Concept - Space Vixen - FTG Hivemind
Time to start building some ship designs, even though I'm literally the worst at them. Turned out alright though.
This one's an explodey shootey type with a large beam cannon on the front, missile bays on either side, turrets and drone fighters. It's heavily armored and equipped with a warp drive of the Alcubierre variety. The bridge can fully disconnect from the core to use as a ship-to-ship or ship-to-station docker or whenever faster mobility is required within a sector, and there's a smaller vessel built into that again that's used for planetary landings.
Gonna be interesting putting this together in 3D..

Is it? A sleek profile for military vessels to not have important bits be easy targets while allowing room for weapon emplacements, sure, and other types of ships are shaped for whatever purpose they need. If they never need to enter atmosphere, they don't need to be aerodynamic either, so they can have all sorts of dumb shit sticking out at weird angles. But with this concept specifically, I think it's because it literally looks like it has a shoulder stock and trigger guard lol.
I'd be insanely leery about having the bridge and CIC separate (and indeed even having it in a location that can be discerned.) I'd expect that, instead, the bridge/CIC would be deeply buried and well-protected, while a specialized heavy strike craft and may be parasite-docked to the upper hull, with said parasite craft carrying something on the order of, oh, a boarding / assault shuttle. Assuming the use of quantum entanglement communication, you can thus maintain detailed control and communications, allowing for the parasite vessel to perform long-baseline interferometric telescopy, DRASTICALLY increasing their passive sensor ranges. The parasite craft would likely count as part of an embarked task force, and commanded by a 1st Lt. or Lt. Cmdr.
Oh, and on a side note...
YEET!!!

Nice ship, has some flair of water based ships while still looking made for space. And does look well designed, not just cuz pretty, but from space faring usefulness standpoint. Would command such a thing with pleasure o7
And the detachable command part reminds me a bit of the Caterpillar I have in star citizen, versatility is always good.

Actually shares a lot of design aspects of the federation Galaxy-class although none of its aesthetics. That ship had a fairly large craft called the Captain's Yacht that shared part of its external profile with docking bay exposed after launch (It was located center underneath the saucer section) And that ship as well could separate into two major craft with each one having its own bridge, though one contained virtually all the armaments and the warp core and was headed to danger while the other section pretty much needed to retreat and keep the civilian/scientific crew safe.
So, necessity is the mother of invention when it comes to naval design. This ship is clearly not an explorer or a trailblazer, but the product of a people who have decided to weaponize. That doesn't happen without a foe, a threat or a danger, lessons of the past learned from. I'm curious what history led to the making of this ship, is it one-of-a-kind or is it typical of a fleet? The features should reflect the imperatives of the designer.
