Soliloquy
A Thursday Prompt story

Prompt: speaker
SCENE: An empty stage. Enter FOLLY, in a coat of motley with no pants.
FOLLY.
Gentles all, be thou of good cheer tonight, and
Revel in the follies and joys of thy home and kin;
Know that the evils of the world are still without
Thy gates, yet pay no heed to them.
(aside.) I must needs now follow Folly's own advice,
For I hate an audience that listens, and partake of the
Sweet gifts of Bacchus, that moisten the dry wits. Come,
Let's away.
Exit, but momentarily.
Re-enter FOLLY, now daubed with woad and ochre.
FOLLY.
Never more nor never less, for Folly's way is
Never clear; he goes as his wits take him, even
Though he walk into a wall and thereby receive a
Knock.
Yet if Folly should knock, the gates should be opened
To him, for what is Folly than the gentle joys of
Family, the mirthful exploits of a playful cat or dog, the
Joy that mothers and fathers find in children. There is
Silver and Gold in abundance, therefore look thou to
Thy treasuries, and let the world slip by.
Exeunt omnes.

Wow!
That is some awesome prose...to rival that of Sir William (IMHO).
I have to admit, the first time I really *had* to read this level of prose (waaaaay back in 10th grade when we "studied" Julius Ceaser) I had a HELL of a time trying to figure out just what the fox they were saying...but now in my old age, it somehow becomes... exquisite.
Well done, I say!
