Time for a proper introduction: Meet Alfonso Bernardo Clemente! Friends just call him... Never mind, he's perpetually grumpy and doesn't really have any friends, so you can call him Signor Clemente.
He used to be a rather successful concert pianist and teacher, but retired after his wife passed on a few years back. Doesn't go out much nowadays, except to shout at noisy kids or to shoo away brash door-to-door salesmen.

It's one of his favorites, "Caporath the Great". He reads it at least once each year, but still gets excited by its many thrilling action scenes. ( It probably helps that his memory isn't quite what it used to be, so it's almost like a new book each time! )
