I got this idea awhile ago while walking home a couple months back. I saw this formation in the sky and thought it would make a really cool dragon. (formation made from the paths of two airplanes and a few high altitude clouds).
I, at first, had no idea what color it would be until I reversed the initial sepia coloring.
The color of the flames go nicely with the line and frill colors and it makes the dragon seem more powerful since a blue flame is very much hotter than the typical red to yellow flames. (the more toward the violet spectrum the color of flames go the exponentially hotter the flame gets). If I remember from my class, the hottest flame is called the 'Black Flame' but is actually a flame so close to the violet spectrum that it turns a very dark and bold purple color making it seem black. One can vaporize a diamond in that temperature. LOL.
The clouds were simple enough. I dabbed in a few white lines and morphed the living day lights out of them and then stretched them to fit. LOL.
I originally wanted a castle in the background being pwned with a few warriors and a wizard in the foreground to give an idea on how big this dragon is. I got lazy and impatient. ROFL.
I blurred the tail by making a copy of it and making a new layer. I then blurred the new layer and had it gradually blend near the loop area. I did a similar thing with the rest of the body, only I went the other way so that I could have the focus on the main body area. ^^.
It was going to be a wyvern, but a wyvern does not have a spade tail and the spade tail was a must for me as in the original conception. LOL.
Drawn in pencil, scanned in, digitally enhanced and cleaned and then colored digitally. ^\/^.
